WEEKLY RECAP | Loneliness & Moving On

The Intro Part

 Hello, how are you?

I’ve fallen a bit behind with my blog posts this week, but I did manage to get one out on Hanoi (linked here). Spoiler alert, I was too keen on the place!

I’ve still been island hopping. I was debating for a while whether to visit Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Kho Tao, or just fly back to Chiang Mai. Eventually I decided I should go somewhere new instead of back to somewhere I was at the start of the year, I’ll talk about it more below.

If you’ve been on my Instagram, you will have seen that I have been trying my hand at Photoshop. They are some rather amateur attempts BUT I have been having so much fun creating them, and I can’t wait to do more. I’ve been using Miss Katy English’s #wordswithkaty challenge as a inspiration.

The Travel Part

So, since I last wrote this, I said goodbye to the lovely Koh Lanta, and have moved from Krabi to Koh Samui to Koh Phangan.

It’s been a bit of a weird week and a bit of a down week mental health wise. I’ve been unfortunate with some of my hostel choices, they have not been very sociable, so I have not held a long face-to-face conversation with someone for over a week. This got me feeling down and lonely and wanting to go home, and when I get down, I get exhausted. I spent a lot of time in bed for a couple of days, I didn’t have the motivation to get up, not even to go get food. But I kept on moving around to keep things fresh, which helped a lot. I was tempted to dwell in the same hostel, blocking out the world, but I knew that would made me worse.

The first hostel I stayed at in Krabi was so unsocial and not near anything, but the second one was at least 2 minutes away from the beach. So just sitting by the sea, listening to the waves and reading Harry Potter made me feel a lot better. I then moved to Koh Samui, which I had low expectations of. And the first hostel near Chaweng beach was typical tourist abroad atmosphere. The next one near Bangrak pier was much more chill and pretty. And it was in walking distance to things like the Big Buddha and Wat Plai Liem. I have only just arrived in Koh Phangan as I am writing this, so I cannot confirm how good it is. But there is a cheap food market, so I’m quite happy already.

The Reading Part

As I mentioned above, I have been ploughing my way through the Harry Potter books. I think I started the week just starting Prisoner of Azkaban and now I am just starting Order of the Phoenix. I know a lot of people don’t like that book much, but it’s one of my favourites.

I’ve also been reading a lotof Buzzfeed lately, in leu of having absolutely no one to speak to. Do you know when you first go through Buzzfeed and you scroll until you see an article you really want to read, but as time goes on your bar lowers. By the end of the week I was completely up to date with the Oscars and the new Taylor Swift album theories.

The Media Part

I promise, I do have a lot of good things to watch and listen to bookmarked, but I just did not have the energy to start anything new this week. Instead, I relied on tried and tested old favourites, ones that I have watched several times over. Mainly, Pretty Little Liars. So, not much to update you on here. After reading the Taylor Swift fan theories I also decided I needed to listen to her music again.

As I am writing this, I am listening to an episode of the Guilty Feminist I haven’t heard before. It’s the episode on domesticity, which is really interesting, go give it a listen.

The Pop Culture/News Part

I mean, all I have done is read pop culture things this week, the news was too much for my more fragile than normal state. Cba with Brexit.

One thing that I would like to talk about is the Chris Evans Twitter trending moment. If you’re not aware, Regina King won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk. But what was trending on Twitter was Chris Evans helping her walk up the stairs. I mean, is the bar really that low that a man can help a woman up the stairs, and that’s what everyone talks about. Not Regina King winning an Oscar. Can you imagine being Regina King, and wondering, fresh from the Oscars, full of happiness and pride, deciding to check what the press is saying, and seeing that the main focus is the fact that Chris Evans helped her up the stairs. Not all her hard work in the role, no, just that a man helped her walk up some stairs. I would be fuming.

The Conclusion Part

This week’s recap feels like a bit of a downer, I’m sorry. But some weeks you feel down and there’s no point pretending to be all happy and cheerful every week, it’s not realistic. I’m confident with the plans I’ve got in place for the next week, so I should be happier, I hope. I’ve also been trying to think of some fresh content to type up this weekend for my blog, I’ve already got my posts planned up until April, but I want to add some unique angles into them.
